The biggest update in its history, Shopify 2.0 gives an unprecedented amount of control to you as a merchant. And whilst there’s plenty of review solutions that work well with its predecessor, at we’ve designed our product to integrate with, and compliment, its new and improved version perfectly - all with the same focus on a simple user experience.

The features and functionality of Shopify 2.0 make it easier than ever for you to build and develop customised, engaging storefronts from scratch. With the integration, you bring increased trust and relatable UGC into the mix, creating an immersive shopping experience that drives conversion rates.

So let's look at some of those features, and why is a perfect partner to Shopify 2.0.

Key Shopify 2.0 Updates

1. Section Functionality Everywhere

Shopify’s modular, customisable page elements, known as ‘sections', allow you to add and move content on a webpage with ease - but previously, they were only available for use on your homepage. Now they’re available across your entire store. That means you can add whatever content you choose to any page - without any coding knowledge.

With the new section functionality, you can drag and drop predefined design blocks of widgets, placing them wherever they’ll have the biggest impact. These blocks are customisable, so you can keep review content perfectly aligned with your brand identity. Your product pages will benefit from the power of social proof - all without the need for developers or designers.

2. Metafields for Detail Rich Information

Updates to the Shopify theme editor mean you can now add specific content to a product page without the need for coding or APIs. For example, if you wanted to include a sizing chart or care instructions for a specific item.

The improved metafields also come with a file picker, so instead of hard coding an asset into a theme, you can simply upload supported media. Say you wanted a user manual available for download - just select the PDF, and it will appear wherever you’ve inserted the file metafield within your theme.

This additional information enables shoppers to make well informed purchases - and you can add to it using the attributes widget. Say you’re in fashion eCommerce. Customers can rate a product on things like quality, comfort, and how true to size they found the fit, as well as listing their own height and body type.

Essentially, what you have on every product page is all the details a customer could need to make the right choice for them. Short of actually seeing a product for themselves, it’s as close to the physical shopping experience as you’re likely to get.

3. Easier Review App Integration

This one speaks for itself. On the developer side, Shopify has introduced theme app extensions, making it easy for app developers to build UI components compatible with all themes, accessible from within the theme editor.

For you as a merchant, this means you’ll now get drag and drop boxes for integration, with the ability to add and remove apps, including, without any changes to your theme’s code.

4. More Available Themes

Along with the OS 2.0 rollout, Shopify also announced the reopening of its Theme Store (which was closed back in 2018). This means theme developers are once again able to submit innovative, cutting edge designs - giving you access to an unlimited number of new themes to support your brand.

The benefit of using here is that we have an extensive library of customisable, responsive widgets and badges (and we’re always updating them). So regardless of your chosen theme, you’ll always be able to integrate review content seamlessly.

5. Increased Loading Speed

Customers want the shopping experience to be fast, and so does Google - and it gives search preference to sites with quicker loading speeds. Shopify has made significant improvements here (it’s checkout, for example, loads twice as fast, as well as being able to handle seven times the volume).

Obviously, you don’t want anything that slows this down, which is why our widgets are super lightweight. They’re quick to load because they don’t sit within an iframe - this also gives them much greater SEO value, since iframes don’t get indexed by search engines.

Shopify 2.0 + No Code, No Friction

The majority of Shopify’s updates have been designed so that anyone can use it’s innovative features, regardless of technical experience. The solution takes the same approach, with our code free widget and social proof editors. It’s all about adding value to the user, so they can add value to their brand.

Both Shopify 2.0 and also integrate seamlessly with platforms like Klaviyo, Gorgias and LoyaltyLion, so you can build a best-of-breed tech stack that drives business growth.
